IT'S OFFICIAL! NEXT YEAR OUR PROGRAM WILL BE A 90/10 DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM!
Since our inception of the dual language program in 2013-2014, we have been a 50/50 Spanish Immersion program. However, due to the changes in and around our community, our School Governance Team unanimously voted to become a 90/10 program in 2022 - 2023 school year.
What does this mean for current students? Currents students will not see any change in their instructional program.
What does this mean for students who are starting kindergarten in 2022-2023 school year?
In the 90/10 dual language immersion model, the target language (Spanish) is used in kindergarten for 90% of the instructional time and English is used for 10%.
At each grade level, the amount of instruction in English rises by 10% and is considered sequential literacy model, as literacy in the target language is developed before moving on to formally developing literacy in English.
Incoming students in TK and Kindergarten grade will automatically be enrolled in the program.
Students in 1st grade and up will continue in the 50/50 program unless otherwise decided by the School Governance Team.
We are very excited to continue this program, producing biliterate, 21st century, global citizens!
NEW STUDENT AND TK/K ORIENTATION
An orientation for new families and TK/K families will be held on the Friday before school begins via zoom. Meet the principal and staff, hear about the programs and school policies, and tour the school.
CLASS ROSTERS/TEACHER ASSIGNMENTS
Rosters will be posted on Friday before the first day of the school year on the office window. Parents will also receive an email from their classroom teacher with an invitation to their ClassDojo. Parents are welcome to come by to view their child's classroom assignment over the weekend. Rosters will be posted around the campus on the first day of school.
CONTINUING STUDENTS
Students returning to Juarez do not need to pre-register. Information packets will go home the first week of school with pre-printed enrollment cards with information from last school year. If there are any changes (phone, address, email, etc.), parents will be asked to make those changes on the cards and return them to the school.
BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES/WISH LIST
All essential instructional materials are provided by the school, but with budget cuts over the last several years, we at Juarez have become very creative and conservative with general school supplies. We are fortunate to be recipients of donations from parents and local businesses. Below you will find a list of items that will make your child's first days at school more comfortable. Additionally, you will find our school "wish list" of general and specialty supplies that would be most appreciated! Lastly, we always appreciate donations of gently used children's clothing and shoes for emergency use, especially under garments and shorts or pants. Thank you for your support!
